David Weekley Homes Collects Thousands of Meals, Donations During Annual Food Drive
Austin, TX (December 11, 2019): Nearly 3,300 people locally – and 60,000 nationwide – walked away from the Thanksgiving table with a full belly and a happy heart this year, thanks to the partnership of David Weekley Homes and 18 charities across the U.S. In Austin, David Weekley Homes teamed up with Central Texas Food Bank, a nonprofit organization that has served Central Texas for 37 years to provide meals to needy families.
“It is very heartwarming to know that David Weekley Homes believes in giving back,” said Tara Sinicropi, community engagement coordinator with Central Food Bank.
From November 1- 15, David Weekley Homes hosted its fifth annual companywide Thanksgiving Drive, bringing together its homeowners, real estate agents, vendors, trade partners and team members to collect 150,000 pounds of food for nearly 60,000 people across the country.
“We were all shocked to see the amount of goods we were able to collect in 15 days,” said Natalie Lawson, project coordinator with David Weekley Homes in Austin. “We provided more than 9,000 meals in Central Texas!”
Central Texas Food Bank serves Central Texas by providing free food to families in need, helping families who qualify for federal assistance programs and also making food affordable for charitable and government partners, which allows them to spend their limited resources to improve their programs.
To assist Central Texas Food Bank this year, David Weekley Homes collected approximately 1,660 pounds of nonperishable food items during the two-week drive. The Thanksgiving Drive is a volunteer and philanthropic initiative of the company’s CARE program, which allows the extended David Weekley Homes family to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.
“It was great to work with Central Texas Food Bank since the organization is able to serve so many people in need across 21 counties in Texas,” said Mary Lewis, warranty coordinator with David Weekley Homes in Austin.
