David Weekley Homes Donates Thanksgiving Meals as Part of Holiday Food Drive
Tampa, FL (December 6, 2018): David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, hosted its fourth annual, companywide Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive, collecting an aggregate of more than 183,935 pounds of turkey and nonperishable items in 18 participating markets. The company’s efforts provided 311,469 meals to local families.
In Tampa, more than 3,500 items resulting in over 20,000 pounds of nonperishable items were collected during the two-week drive, which ran from November 1 to 15. In addition, the David Weekley Family Foundation provided a monetary donation of $4,000 for warehouse improvements.
“This was my second year participating in the Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving drive,” said Julia Sullo, warranty coordinator with David Weekley Homes in Tampa. “There’s an overwhelming number of food insecure individuals in our community and thanks to the success of our food drive, we will be able to provide 17,000 meals to those in need.”
Locally, the Giving Thanks, Giving Back Thanksgiving Drive benefitted Feeding Tampa Bay, a nonprofit organization that changes lives one meal at a time by leading the community in the fight against hunger. David Weekley team members provided the frozen turkeys and collected items to Feeding Tampa Bay to distribute to families in time for the holiday.
“Thank you, again, for taking action against hunger,” said Gabriela Garayar, connections coordinator with Feeding Tampa Bay. “Many of our clients and agencies were thankful to receive the turkeys and dry goods donated to support their Thanksgiving this year.”
