David Weekley Homes team members collected nonperishable food items, monetary donations, and frozen turkeys and hams for 19 local nonprofit organizations across the country.
Houston, TX (December 21, 2023): More than 440,000 people nationwide received a hearty Thanksgiving meal thanks to the partnership of David Weekley Homes and 19 charities across the U.S. Throughout November, the company hosted its ninth annual companywide Thanksgiving Drive, with more than $194,000 in nonperishable food items, frozen turkeys and monetary donations donated to organizations around the country with help from homeowners, real estate agents, vendors, trade partners and team members.
“Being in a position where we as a company can come together around Thanksgiving and give back to our community is so fulfilling,” said Perry Hunt, project coordinator in Austin at David Weekley Homes. “We have many blessings to be thankful for and to be able to take the burden away from our neighbors is something that I am very thankful for.”
Companywide, more than 1,000 team members participated in the drive to help families in need. In addition, the Dovetail Impact Foundation, donated more than $161,000 to local organizations.
For the eighth year in a row, the Tampa team partnered with Feeding Tampa Bay, an organization dedicated to fighting hunger by providing food to nearly one million food insecure families in West Central Florida. Donations provided more than 120,000 meals for the community.
“Thank you, David Weekley Homes, for your continued support of Feeding Tampa Bay,” said Jack Forsyth, community engagement coordinator at Feeding Tampa Bay. “Sharing a meal together is something that our organization holds close to our heart, and unfortunately, many will go without that opportunity this holiday season. Not only did you all make it a priority to share a meal and day together, at the same time you were able to provide meals for others to do the same.”
In North Carolina, team members supported the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina and collected more than $1,200 in monetary donations in addition to nonperishable food items that totaled to more than 49,000 meals.
"The support it takes to provide that many meals to those facing food insecurity in our 34-county service area is so appreciated,” said Kelsey Allen, corporate partnership officer for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. “Thank you for the hard work in providing those more than 49,000 meals.”
The annual drive is an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which allows the extended David Weekley Homes family to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. Over the past 20 years, more than $250 million has been donated to worthy causes around the world through company earnings and the Dovetail Impact Foundation (formerly the David Weekley Family Foundation). In addition, team members have volunteered countless hours with various organizations across the country.
