David Weekley Homes Team Members Build Wheelchair Ramps
Houston, TX (July 21, 2017): David Weekley Homes recently partnered with 18 local nonprofit organizations across the country through the company’s CARE Build Month projects.
In Houston, the project benefitted The Texas Ramp Project, an organization that has built more than 10,000 wheelchair ramps since 2006 for elderly and disabled clients. Approximately 220 Weekley team members from the company’s Houston Division, along with 20 vendors, volunteered more than 1,400 hours to build ramps for families with medical needs who lack the financial resources.
“This year, The Texas Ramp Project will receive approximately twice as many referrals as we are able to support with our internal funding,” said John Laine, Executive Director with The Texas Ramp Project. “The people being served by this partnership would, in many cases, not receive a ramp without the help of David Weekley Homes. We are very pleased to have this support and so are those being served.”
This project benefitted 22 families by providing a ramp for clients, which will help them be able to leave their homes without assistance. The project also included donations of more than $12,000 in materials and tools.
“I am so excited to be a part of this and grateful to be part of a company that encourages giving back and provides us so many opportunities to do so,” said Rachael Stricker, Warranty Service Manager in Houston with David Weekley Homes.
The project was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members, homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
