David Weekley Homes Team Members Build Wheelchair Ramps for The Texas Ramp Project
San Antonio, TX (June 12, 2019): David Weekley Homes recently partnered with 19 local nonprofit organizations across the country through the company’s CARE Build Month projects.
In San Antonio, the project benefitted The Texas Ramp Project, an organization dedicated to building and assembling wheelchair ramps for disabled or elderly people. Approximately 75 Weekley team members from the company’s San Antonio Team volunteered more than 295 hours to build six ramps for families with medical needs who lack the financial resources.
“David Weekley Homes is helping those home bound with accessibility to leave their homes with ease which improves their overall well-being,” said Larry Milton, Texas Ramp Build representative for the San Antonio division.
This project benefitted six families by providing a ramp that will enable these clients to leave their homes without assistance. The project included a $4,500 donation to assist with the purchase of building supplies.
“I teared up when we completed our ramp and the recipient came out by herself with her walker,” said Melissa Rayzor, CARE representative and estimator trainee with David Weekley Homes. “She is legally blind, deaf mute and said via sign language, ‘I’m so excited and grateful that I can now go outside on my own and enjoy the beautiful day.’”
The project was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members, homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $200 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
