STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM DAVID WEEKLEY HOMES BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
AUSTIN, TX (September 17, 2015): David Weekley Homes hosted a Back to School Supply Drive benefiting Helping Hand Home for Children, an organization that helps severely abused children.
“The school supply drive had a huge impact on our kids,” said Jamie Lounsbury, education and intake manager at Helping Hand Home for Children. “Many of these children have never had their own school supplies, and they are so proud of their new backpacks and supplies.”
Approximately 1,800 items valued at $2,965 were collected during the two-week drive that benefited 42 children. The organization also received a donation of $1,600 from the David Weekley Family Foundation. After collecting the donations, Team Members spent 10 hours sorting the supplies and delivering them to the organization to ensure the supplies would be distributed in time for the students to begin school with the tools needed to be successful.
“Donating school supplies to make sure these children were ready and excited for the new school year was a treat for us,” said Melina Kane, a senior estimator at David Weekley Homes. “We have enjoyed a strong partnership with Helping Hand Home for Children for many years, and we always receive a positive response from our team members.”
The drive was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners Team Members with homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by the David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
