Students Benefit from David Weekley Homes Back to School Supply Drive
Hilton Head, SC (September 2, 2016): David Weekley Homes hosted its second companywide Back to School Supply Drive in 22 cities across the country. Held for the third year locally in Hilton Head, school supplies were collected for Bluffton Self Help, an organization that is committed to providing short-term financial assistance, food and clothing to area residents while helping them to become more self-reliant.
“We are so grateful that you appreciate the importance of all children starting the school year off on the right foot, said Julie Jones, assistant executive director at Bluffton Self Help. “One in five children may not have access to basic school supplies because of their family’s economic situation. This statistic is changing thanks to your very generous donation! Research shows that when adequately equipped, students have a more positive feeling of self-worth, miss fewer days of school, are more attentive in class and achieve higher academic scores. This is all possible thanks to you and your generous support of our 2016 School Supply Drive!”
After collecting the donations, which benefitted 100 children, team members invested time sorting the supplies and delivering them to the organization to ensure the supplies would be distributed in time for the students to begin school with the tools needed to be successful.
“This was our third year partnering with Bluffton Self Help to collect school supplies for our area children,” said Nancy Cantor, a sales consultant with David Weekley Homes. “The overwhelming support from our homeowners and vendors warms my heart. This cause is all about the kids and enhancing their lives; a direct reflection of why CARE was created and our company's culture.”
The drive was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members with homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by the Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
