Students Benefit from David Weekley Homes Back to School Supply Drive
Houston, TX (September 13, 2016): David Weekley Homes hosted its second annual companywide Back to School Supply Drive in 22 cities across the country. In Houston, school supplies were collected for Big Brothers Big Sisters, an organization that provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships to positively impact their lives.
“Big Brothers Big Sisters is so grateful for the support from David Weekley Homes toward our 2016 Back to School Drive,” said Paul Dewey, regional executive director for Big Brothers Big Sisters. “The effort from the David Weekley Homes team members secured 150 backpacks, complete with critical supplies to help our kids with a great jump start to the new year. Because of David Weekley Homes, we were able to include our unmatched Littles as recipients of the drive, which we have not been able to do in the past.
“One mother of an unmatched Little called us last Friday, and said ‘I was so relieved to get your email about the school supplies. You will never know how much this will help us. Thank you so much,’” Dewey continued.
Approximately 150 backpacks filled with all of the requisite supplies, valued at $8,500, were collected during the drive. After collecting the donations, 350 team members sorted the supplies and delivered them to the organization to ensure the supplies would be distributed in time for the students to begin school with the tools needed to be successful.
“Personally, I love working for a company that is so involved in the community, said Stephanie Dunlap, a research and design production designer for David Weekley Homes. “I love the partnership we’re forming with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and this was the perfect way to kick off the school year! I was blown away at the outcome of the event, and how excited everyone was to help out, and I’m glad we were able to help so many kids right here in Houston.”
The drive was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members with homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofit organizations to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
