STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM DAVID WEEKLEY HOMES BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
Orlando, FL (September 17, 2015): David Weekley Homes hosted a Back to School Supply Drive benefiting A Gift For Teaching, an organization that provides free school supplies to teachers for their students in need.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have David Weekly Homes on board to support our mission and the 190,000 Central Florida students in need,” said Marisa Worley, director of development for A Gift For Teaching. “The stuffed backpacks collected by the team members, as well as the generous financial donation from the David Weekley Family Foundation, will go a long way in equipping these students for success. As the need continues to rise, the efforts of community partners like David Weekly Homes become even more critical to making sure children have the confidence to start the new school year.”
Approximately 3,300 items, valued at $12,000, were collected during the two-week drive, which benefited 3,110 children. After collecting the donations, team members spent 22 hours sorting the supplies and delivering them to the organization to ensure the supplies would be distributed in time for the students to begin school with the tools needed to be successful.
“Knowing how many kids in need live in our community, it really feels good to know that we are helping them out as well as their teachers, who often bear the burden of supplying these necessities,” said Rachel Blackwell, project coordinator for David Weekley Homes.
The drive was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members with homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by the Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
