STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM DAVID WEEKLEY HOMES BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
PANAMA CITY, FL (September 17, 2015): David Weekley Homes hosted a Back to School Supply Drive benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of Bay County, an organization that works with youth of all backgrounds to help them develop the qualities to become responsible citizens and leaders.
“This donation will provide school supplies to students and allow us to purchase new helmets, sticks, hockey balls and goalie equipment that is needed for our members,” said JC Schwab, area director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bay County. “Over 60 percent of the club members can’t afford to participate in organized youth sports, but this donation will help these kids can feel as though they are part of a team.”
Approximately $300 in school supplies were collected during the two-week drive, along with a $2,500 donation from the David Weekley Family Foundation. After collecting the donations, team members spent five hours sorting the supplies and delivering them to the organization to ensure the supplies would be distributed in time for the students to begin school with the tools needed to be successful.
“It warms your heart to know you are giving back to others, especially children,” said Nelva Love, project coordinator with David Weekley Homes. “It is a wonderful opportunity to see the children in action with the new items, whether it be the new school supplies or the new hockey equipment.”
The drive was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members with homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by the David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
