STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM DAVID WEEKLEY HOMES BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
Tampa, FL (September 16, 2015): David Weekley Homes hosted a Back to School Supply Drive benefiting Project LINK, an organization that promotes education achievement by expanding access to community service providers and improving the quality of life for low-income children and their families in Hillsborough County, FL.
“There are many children in our county that are homeless and uninsured students. Parents struggling for one reason or another,” said Tina Young, executive director for Project LINK. “What may seem to be a simple pencil and notepad to you and I, is the escape tools these kids use to make their journey into the world of creative writing. I thank you David Weekley Homes for contributing to Project LINK's objective of ‘Starting Right and Finishing Strong’ as we prepare children in this community to be productive citizens.”
Approximately 1,700 items valued at $3,000 were collected during the two-week drive, which benefited 160 children. After collecting the donations, team members spent 10 hours sorting the supplies and delivering them to the organization to ensure the supplies would be distributed in time for the students to begin school with the tools needed to be successful.
“How amazing it is to see children who are so very happy and appreciative to receive the smallest of gifts that a lot of kids get automatically,” said Christus Finley, sales consultant with David Weekley Homes. “What a blessing to be able to help get these children off on the right foot for their school year.”
The drive was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members with homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by the Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
