Students Benefit from David Weekley Homes Back to School Supply Drive
Tampa, FL (September 6, 2016): David Weekley Homes hosted its second annual companywide Back to School Supply Drive in 22 cities across the country. In Tampa, school supplies were collected for USO of Central Florida, an organization that provides services, programs and support to our troops and their families.
“We are so grateful for David Weekley Homes' invaluable support of our Back to School Drive,” said Amy Phillips, with USO of Central Florida. “You have just created incredible moments for our military families, boosting their morale and resiliency. The USO is truly a family of volunteers, sustained by the charitable contributions of generous Americans. We are united in our commitment to support America’s service members by keeping them connected to the people, places and things they love. Thank you for being a part of that mission!”
Approximately $2,000 worth of items were collected during the drive.
“Thank you so much for the amazing contributions at our Back to School Drive,” said Nelly Richards, School Liaison Officer at MacDill Air Force Base. “Words cannot express my gratitude to you and the many volunteers you were able to bring alongside you.”
After collecting the donations, 60 Tampa team members spent 15 hours sorting the supplies and delivering them to the organization to ensure the supplies would be distributed in time for the students to begin school with the tools needed to be successful.
“I am so happy that we could give back to our military and show how much we appreciate the sacrifice that they make everyday,” said Christus Finley, senior sales consultant at David Weekley Homes.
The drive was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members with homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofit organizations to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
