Students Benefit from David Weekley Homes School Supplies Drive
Houston, TX (September 6, 2017): David Weekley Homes hosted its third companywide CA+RE School Supplies Drive in 18 cities across the country. In Houston, school supplies were collected for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, a nonprofit agency that provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships to positively impact their lives.
“The generosity of David Weekley Homes employees made the beginning of the school year much easier for our kids and their families,” said Raul Garcia, partnership account manager with David Weekley Homes. “With proper school supplies, our kids naturally gain the confidence and comfort to learn and most importantly, have fun!"
Approximately $5,000 in items were collected from homeowners and homebuyers during the drive, which benefitted more than 130 children. After collecting the donations, team members from the Houston Division and corporate office sorted the supplies and delivered them to the organization to ensure the supplies would be distributed in time for the students to begin school with the tools needed to be successful. An additional donation of nearly $5,000 was given for the purchase of several smart TVs, a camera and other audio equipment that will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
“The school supply drive is a great way to outreach to the community. There are multiple families who struggle to buy school supplies for their children,” said Jolene Smith, research and development model draftsperson with David Weekley Homes. “With the school supply drive we make a difference to the students’ lives emotionally.”
The drive was an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members, homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives. This is accomplished by company team members volunteering countless hours to different organizations in their communities and by The David Weekley Family Foundation donating more than $100 million to a variety of organizations through the U.S. and abroad over the past 20 years.
