Students Benefit from David Weekley Homes School Supplies Drive
Houston, TX (August 27, 2018): David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, hosted its fourth annual, companywide CA+RE School Supplies Drive in 17 cities across the country. In Houston, school supplies were collected for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, which provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-on-one relationships to positively impact their lives.
“David Weekley Homes has been an incredible change agent in advancing the mission of mentoring in the Greater Houston community,” said Pierce Bush, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Lone Star. “Through their support, we’ve helped numerous families by equipping our 'littles' with the tools they need in order to learn and discover their biggest possible future."
Approximately $3,500 in supplies were collected from homeowners, vendors, Real Estate Agents and business partners during the drive, along with $3,100 in items from Team Members at the company’s home office. Combined, these donations helped 1,000 students prepare for the school year. In addition, The David Weekley Family Foundation provided a grant of $13,323 to fulfill a wish list for 25 laptops with cases and office equipment to the organization.
“Children who arrive to school prepared are equipped to learn more than just curriculum,” said Stori Puccio, project coordinator with David Weekley Homes. “Having another opportunity to encourage young minds is always a great feeling.”
The School Supplies Drive is a volunteer and philanthropic initiative of the company’s CARE program, which joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.
