Students Benefit from David Weekley Homes School Supplies Drive
Indianapolis, IN (August 22, 2018): David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, hosted its fourth annual, companywide CA+RE School Supplies Drive in 17 cities across the country. In Indianapolis, school supplies were collected for Teachers’ Treasures, which obtains and distributes school supplies to teachers in Marion County and surrounding school districts to provide to students in need.
“David Weekley Homes continues to overwhelm Teachers’ Treasures with its generosity and support,” said Margaret Sheehan, executive director at Teachers’ Treasures. “Just think about that student who wears that Superman backpack to school filled with supplies he otherwise would not have been able to access – this donation will truly make that student feel powerful!”
David Weekley Homes collected items from homeowners, vendors and Real Estate Agents, which made a substantial contribution to the $40,000 in total supplies collected during Teachers’ Treasures Gr8 Paper Push drive. This donation provided more than 4,100 teachers with the supplies for students to start the school year. In addition, a grant of $3,500 from The David Weekley Family Foundation will be used to purchase eight new laptops for the organization.
“Each August, I get excited about preparing for a new school year - whether for myself as a student, for my own now grown children, or in preparing for my own students as a former teacher,” said Crissy Holcomb, sales consultant with David Weekley Homes. “This year, I was excited to purchase items for someone else. I hope my small contribution makes the school year a tab bit nicer with a few more items to use in a classroom.”
The School Supplies Drive is a volunteer and philanthropic initiative of the company’s CARE program, which joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.
