Students Benefit from David Weekley Homes School Supplies Drive
Orlando, FL (August 22, 2019): David Weekley Homes, the nation’s largest privately-held builder, hosted its fifth annual, companywide School Supplies Drive in 18 cities across the country. In Orlando, school supplies were collected for A Gift For Teaching, an organization that provides free resources and surplus materials to teachers for their students in need.
“The back-to-school season is when we experience the highest demand for school supplies,” said Jane Thompson, president of A Gift For Teaching. “David Weekley team members stepped up to the challenge and provided us with enough supplies to allow us to serve more teachers and students in the area.”
Approximately $8,700 in supplies were collected from the local community during the drive. This donation provided more than 8,000 students with the supplies needed for the school year.
“My daughter is a teacher so I know how taxing it can be to procure resources for a classroom,” said Cyndi Miller, division coordinator with David Weekley Homes in Orlando. “It feels good knowing that each of us can contribute to make a big impact in these students’ lives.”
The School Supplies Drive is a volunteer and philanthropic initiative of the company’s CARE program, which joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.
