For many of us, cleaning our home is not something we look forward to. We dread it so much that we often put it off – which makes the task even more onerous. Are there really people who perform this chore cheerfully? Yes. And these are some of their secrets.
An Ounce of Prevention
An Ounce of Prevention
We’re all guilty of it – the looming mountain of dirty dishes. Take away the sting of this large task by placing rinsed dishes in the dishwasher, rather than stacking them in the sink. This keeps them out of sight (and smell) until you’ve collected enough to add detergent and turn it on.
The same strategy applies to dirty clothes: drop them in the hamper, not on the floor. Hang jackets and folded sweaters in the closet… not on the bedpost or your treadmill. By investing an extra minute or two to put these items away, your space will look and feel better and laundry time will be a breeze.
Close at Hand
Research shows that cleaning tools, such as disinfectant wipes or baby wipes, have a much higher likelihood of being used, and in a timely manner, if they’re close by*. Keep a tub readily accessible in the kitchen and bathroom, or store all your supplies in a portable basket, to avoid a wild goose chase searching for them from room to room in a moment of need.
*Success levels vary from person to person

Fulfilling Your Purpose in This World
Many household cleaning products are specially formulated to penetrate tough stains and dissolve them. By wiping them off too soon, it defeats their purpose because they haven’t had a chance to finish the chemical reaction.
Begin your cleaning session by spraying trouble areas first, then move on to other tasks. By the time you circle back around, the cleaning product should have done most of the heavy lifting, leaving you with more time and less scrubbing.
On the Clock
On the Clock
Before starting a cleaning session, set a timer for half an hour. As we are more focused and efficient when we have a time limit. Celebrate your sense of accomplishment and rest assured that whatever tasks that you can’t get to can be saved for next time.
By limiting chores and cleaning time to manageable portions, it makes these tasks less worrisome and more workable. Cleaning your home may never be lovable, but it can be manageable.
