David Weekley Homes Companywide School Supplies Drive Benefits 16,900 Students
HOUSTON, TX (September 23, 2022): David Weekley Homes, one of the largest privately held national home builders, helped 16,900 students nationwide thanks to the partnership with 18 charities across the country during its eighth annual companywide School Supplies Drive.
“Our partnership with David Weekley Homes has grown through the years from participating in our school supplies drive to funding critical organizational needs,” said Lisa Berwyn, director of advancement and donor engagement for Communities In Schools of Wake County. “Not only does David Weekley Homes engage their own team, but they also reach out to their vendors to help the community. This year, in addition to delivering school supplies, their team came to one of our after-school learning centers to help students pick out a backpack filled with supplies. We’re so thankful for everything David Weekley Homes does for Communities In Schools.”
Companywide, more than $135,000 in supplies were provided to students with help from donations provided by team members, homebuyers, homeowners, real estate agents, and trade and vendor partners. Approximately 930 team members participated in the drive to help children, teachers and schools in need by contributing more than 1,000 volunteer hours to help make the drive a success. Additionally, the Dovetail Impact Foundation (formerly the David Weekley Family Foundation) donated more than $88,000 to nonprofit organizations.
“Getting to participate in the School Supplies Drive every year is a great reminder to myself on how fulfilling it is to give to others,” said Shannon Burrows, lead estimator for David Weekley Homes in Austin. “It is great to see everyone in our division come together to help kids in our community. Being able to help them start their new school year with supplies is a small gesture by us, but it is something that means so much to them.”
The School Supplies Drive is a volunteer and philanthropic initiative of the company’s CARE program, which joins team members with homeowners, homebuyers, community partners and local nonprofit organizations to live out its purpose of Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives in each of the communities in which it builds.
