David Weekley Homes Provides Ramps and Repairs for LOVE Inc of Mecklenburg County

Charlotte, NC (June 19, 2018): David Weekley Homes recently partnered with 18 local nonprofit organizations across the country through the company’s CARE Build Month projects.

In Charlotte, the project benefited Love INC, a nonprofit organization providing a range of services for the poor, elderly and disabled in the region. Approximately 65 Weekley team members volunteered 260 hours to build accessibility ramps as well as provide home repairs for families with medical needs who lack the financial resources.

“Love INC is so grateful to David Weekley Homes for their continued partnership,” said Melissa Thompson, executive director and CEO of Love INC. “Because of partners like them, we are not only able to fulfill our mission, but provide individuals that live in poverty safe access and resources needed to live independently.”

This project improved the lives of eight families by providing ramps for Love INC clients, as well as landscaping and gutter repair. One family had carpet removed and replaced with vinyl flooring to facilitate mobility of a child in a wheelchair following a devastating car crash. The project included donations of more than $8,000 in materials and tools.

“I’ve never worked for a company that allowed its employees to take time out of their busy work schedules to help people in need,” said Thomas Barker, warranty service representative and CARE volunteer for David Weekley Homes. “It’s truly a rewarding feeling and a huge perk working for David Weekley Homes.”

The project is an initiative of the company’s CARE program, which is a charitable and volunteer program that partners team members, homeowners, homebuyers and community partners with nonprofits to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone it touches and in all the communities it builds through its purpose, Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives.
